Terrace Down’s situation in the Southern Alps makes it a popular base in late summer and autumn for hunters, who foray out into the high country in pursuit of red stag, elk, fallow deer, tahr, chamois, arapawa rams, wild goats, wild boar and game birds.
The abundance of quality meats and wild game available in the region inspired the team to shift his focus from fine dining to a more robust clubhouse style. Hunter’s new menu is all about top quality seasonal ingredients presented simply so their sensational flavours are the star of the show.
If you never had the pleasure of dining at Terrace Downs, you should most definitely try Hunter's Steak House.
Being the only restaurant of its stature outside of Christchurch, it quite often caters to fully-booked weekends. We strongly recommend booking at least 4 weeks out to avoid disappointment.
