A highly competitive field took to the Terrace Downs golf course on Sunday 11 April for the national finals of the NZ Classic World Cup.
The course offered the best playing conditions seen at Terrace Downs in recent times, and with their eye on the prize, the competitiveness wasn’t surprising.
The lucky winners received a trip to Las Vegas flying V Australia, playing golf at the world renowned Rio Secco golf course, staying at New York New York and live shows!
The field comprised of winners from 25 qualifying events along with corporate sponsors. Having to battle the traditional high country wind, and playing a 2-man Ambrose, some great scores were handed in.
The winners were Richard McKernan and Allan Coffin who qualified at the Waimairi Beach Golf Club event.
It was a very tight race for first place with Richard and Allan coming in only 0.5 of a shot ahead from second place… A great day was had by all!
On behalf of all the organisers of the 2010 NZ Classic World Cup, congratulations to Alan and Richard on their tremendous achievement and good luck in Las Vegas. Thank you to all the players who competed in the qualifying events; all of the clubs who hosted a qualifying round and all of the sponsors for making this happen - V Australia, PBT Couriers, Coca Cola, DB Breweries, Maxfli, The Las Vegas Convention Bureau, Classic Events.
We look forward to running the New Zealand Classic World Cup bigger and better in 2011… watch this space for details.
